About Scot Robinson

I'm getting old! Thanks for visiting my blog! It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been working on the internet in various ventures since 1996 when I founded the ParenthoodWeb. I started that site with my wife Debi as a way to learn a little about the web and to help us find the secret answers to our parenthood questions when our son was about one. Partly through hard work, and mostly because of timing it became one of the largest sites of its kind, so quit my day-job as an investment banker on Wall Street and devoted all of my time to the site.  We were soon approached by a large British conglomerate and agreed to sell ParenthoodWeb.

My next stop on the internet train was Daytracker.com, a collaboration with New York friend Michael Barlow. Daytracker.com was one of the first online calendar-planners. Unfortunately, we never had a chance to publicly launch Daytracker. Why?   Online calendars were a hot commodity in 1999 and everyone wanted one.  We had a few offers and ended up choosing to sell the site to planner giant Franklincovey and it was re-branded by the good folks in Salt Lake City as Franklinplanner.com.  Michael and I  also founded Regards.com which was one of the first free eCard sites.

Over the years I have had many additional experiences as a web entrepreneur, investor and consultant. Some successful, others not as successful. Rarely a day goes by where I’m not asked to look over a business idea or to give advice on some aspect of the internet. My goal with this blog is share some of the lessons I have learned over the years and lessons I continue to learn. I also have selfish motivations.  Rather than repeat myself over and over I can now just point to my blog and say — “Look there!”

I’m not really sure where this blog exercise will end up, but I’m looking forward to the journey. I hope you’ll have some patience as I familiarize myself with the format and fool around with a few ideas. I’m sure it will take a little time to find just the right “voice” for this blog, so if I’m a little bit all of the place, please have some patience.

Thanks again for finding my blog and reading this far.  If you like what you see, please pass the word on to friends and associates (there’s a ’share this’ link on most pages to make things easier).  If you haven’t already done so, please be sure to subscribe to the blog by entering your email address in the box to the right.
